 2018 Preview

Central finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Central just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region three with a 2-4 region record.

The 288 points scored by the Lions last year were a team record in a single season. The Lions have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1999 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

Central struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 41.1 points a game.

The Lions would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 7-70.

Over the past 25 seasons, Central has not won much with a record of 43-192. Their 18.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 2A and 376th in the AHSAA. The Lions have struggled on the football field with only one winning season during this time. Their last winning season was 2004.

The Lions are led by head coach Quinn Hambrite who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Central. The Lions saw improvement from a 1-9 record the season before coach Hambrite arrived. The Lions have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hambrite.

Coach Hambrite's overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 2-8 (20.0%).

The Central Lions will play in Class 2A region three during the 2018 season.

The Lions enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

It will be an uphill battle for the Lions if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just 2 wins last year, Central will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Lions open the 2018 season on the road against non-region opponent Pike Road on Friday, August 31.

This will be the second meeting between Central Hayneville and Pike Road on the football field. The Lions have a 0-1-0 record against the Patriots. They last met in with
